The airport is situated 11km south of central Podgorica in the Zeta Plain, one of the few flat areas of Montenegro that's suitable for a landing large aircraft. The airport is locally known as Golubovci Airport (Аеродром Голубовци / Aerodrom Golubovci), because it's sat within the boundaries of the town of Golubovci.

In light traffic, the drive time from the airport to central Podgorica is around 15 minutes.

Nikšić Airport, otherwise known as Kapino Polje Airport, is a small and rather unknown airfield in northern Montenegro.

Nikšić Airport is located on the western outskirts of the city of the same name. It caters mainly to small general aviation operators and local enthusiast aviation clubs.
